Lancaster Auction Leads the Way Once Again

OTM CATTLE

A fast-paced sale with all classes and types experiencing competitive bidding and selling above vendors expectations. Beef cows sold to 354p/kg and £2534 for British Blue from ID Bailey & Son with other mediums generally 305p/kg to 340p/kg & £1980 to £2300. Best of the dairies to 274p/kg & £2415 from Raby Farms, Preesall.

Parlour types 220p/kg to 245p/kg with only the leanest and lightweights less.

OTM Beef heifers sold to 369.5p/kg for a British Blue from T & S Blades, Arkholme with Angus cross £2084 from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe. Dairy heifers to 319.5p/kg from JT & B Fox, Quernmore and £2110 P Knowles, Kendal.
Beef steers to 339.5p/kg for British Blue from Barker Farms, Carnforth and £2359 for Angus cross from J Prest & Son, Lancaster.

STORE CATTLE

Vendors enjoying their day at Lancaster Auction showing their stock to full advantage in the main ring. A full ringside of buyers in attendance with several new making a start ahead of turn out. Keep these cattle coming with prices achieved ahead of local centers.

All steers today averaged £2125 and heifers £1920. Strongest steers regularly £2300 plus topping at £2500 for British Blue from R & DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling and Angus from Tom Barron Farms, Preston who sold others at £2450. Medium keep steers £2100 to £2320 with dairy bred topping at £2200 for MRI from Barlow Bros, Croston.

Best of the heifers not far behind with Aberdeen Angus achieving £2400 from R & DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling and British Blue £2350 from GR Bargh & Co with £2300 for Angus from KH & D Holden & Son, Pilling. Medium keep heifers nicely £2100 to £2250. Younger heifers to £2080 for a ring full of Limousin cross from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof.

CALVES & STIRKS

The first of the new sale format saw a large number of customers in attendance at this ever increasingly popular sale.

Rearing calves commenced the sale with British Blue bulls to £900 from JS Towers & H Kent who sold others at £890. Younger bulls to £790 for Angus cross from Lawsons Dairy Ltd who sold Blues at £760 with 6-week-olds £700 H & SD Cornthwaite and £670 JP & C Robson. Youngest Limousin bulls £460 (2 weeks) from D & K Haworth. Dairy bulls extremely well sold to £460 from J & R Waller who sold others at £370.

Just a handful of heifer calves forward with the strongest £890 from JS Towers & H Kent for British Blue with younger rearers £640 for Blues from Lawsons Dairy Ltd.

The first mid-monthly sale of stirks saw a full row penned and easily sold, more required each sale to satisfy buyers requirements. WJ & EA Woodhouse lead the sale with a trio of 7-month Angus steers at £1160. Close behind at £1150 was JR Robinson & Son selling 7-month-old blue bulls with others £1100 from FW Rhodes & Son, younger recently weaned generally £750 to £800.
